Twisted Skunk Mix CD discography
Well, it's been a long time coming. I've threatened to do this for what seems like an eternity - upload my mixes I mean. Over the next few weeks I will be uploading my Skunk mix CD discography for download. They ramdge from some of the toughest bigbeats and funkiest breakbeats ever to surface the Breaks scene and date back to 1995 - although I didn't do my fist mix CD until 1998. Just simply click on the Skunk image to the right and select which trrack you wish to download and rock on.
Enjoy
Twisted Skunk Bumble Mix
This is a mix I originally did for my Friend Bumble, henceforth it is known as the Bumble Mix. I just recently remastered it and changed the arrangement a little too, mainly to keep the interest, hope you like it - it's certainly random and eclectic. Mmm.
Skunk Mix 6
This is without a shadow of a doubt the most sought after of the Skunk Mixes I've done. Affectionately named Twisted Skunk Mix 6 (imaginative I know!), this mix certainly represents a period of my life when I was DJn 4,5 sometimes 6 times a week, all over the country, and in my mind has certainly stood the test of time. A party rocker, a floor shaker, a Skunk classic!
Enjoy
Short & Sweet Mix
Named the Short & Sweet Mix as it is exactly this. Recorded as a Twisted Skunk promotional mix for a Radio show I did a long long time ago (of which I forget the name of the show, it was in Cambridge), it was when I was running Twisted Skunk at the Fez Club once a month on Fridays. I never gave anyone a copy of the mix so it's not been available until now. Big beats a slammin
Skunk Mix 8
This was recorded at a time when Breakbeat was booming - got a big for its boots I'd say and effectively 'ate itself up', pop will eat itself that kind of thing. This mix has all the hallmarks of 2am dancefloor mayhem and should be taken as so.
The Old Skool Mix (Mix 4)
I call this one the Old Skool Mix as it has tracks on it that were synonymous with the early 'Old Skool' Breaks years, not an Old Skool Mix as it were. Definitely worth checking out as it has some really rare tracks on that you may not have heard in a while or even be aware of. The digital revolution is great, however it has produced a throw away approach to music which I regret renders tracks popular for a very short period of time - these tracks are here to stay!
The Fun Mix (Mix 7)
This was a project of mine that I'd been intending to work on for sometime. The problem was, I wasn't really known for playing this happy happy joy joy kind of style. Occasionally I'd be booked to play something more attainable to a more commercial audience and this would be the kind of set that I would play. it's a great mix with some classic and rare material on it.
Skunk Mix 1
This was one of the first mix CDs I ever recorded. My love for the funkier side of breaks was synonymous with an explosion of the underground movement in Norfolk and Brighton - the FREE party movement that is. So I decided to do a couple of Mix Cds to try and get a couple of gigs here and there, gave 1 to Planet Yes and gave 1 to Po Na Na and got both gigs. Lucky boy. This is definitely one for the iPod and I challenge anyone to not respect the tunes on this CD as it represents a time when music had no boundaries and the term Breakbeat referred to a particular type of sound, long before it became necessary to catagorise the many factors. It was just great dance music.
Skunk Mix 2
This was one of the first mix CDs I ever recorded. My love for the darker arts of music seemed synonymous with an explosion of the underground movement in Norfolk and Brighton - the FREE party movement that is.
The Bigbeat Mix (Mix 3)
This is one of the early mix CDs I did, back in the day when I was running nights at the Po Na Na in Norwich and Cambridge, and the Fez club in Cambridge - All under the Skunk banner. It became apparent to me that people wanted to listen to the underground sounds at home as well as on the dancefloor. It's fair to say I need to do some new Mixes, but I think it paramount to add this discography to the website as the tracks on this particular mix are so good.
